Garner State Park is a great place to visit for a swim or hike, or to enjoy a relaxing weekend. With 2.9 miles of Frio River winding through 1,774 acres of scenic Hill Country terrain, the park offers lots to see and do! Garner State Park is a state park in the community of Concan, Texas located in Uvalde County, Texas in the United States. Garner State Park, in the Texas Hill Country, is the most popular state park in Texas for overnight camping. It often fills by noon in peak parts of the season. The park is popular with campers and local residents for its activities on the Frio River and the dances held nightly during the spring and summer. Garner State Park.

Overnight visitors can stay in screened shelters, cabins or campsites. Large groups can rent the screened shelter or group campsite. The park’s concessionaire sells meals and snacks during the busy season, and rents the pavilion in the off season.

Area Attractions
Visit the Briscoe-Garner Museum to learn about two famous Texas politicians. Fort Inge, once a frontier fort and Texas Ranger camp, now hosts occasional star parties. In summer, join a Frio Bat Flight tour to see the nightly exodus of one of the largest Mexican free-tailed bat colonies in the world. Visit the Uvalde Visitors Center and the Frio Canyon Chamber of Commerce for more information.

Other TPWD parks nearby include Hill Country, Lost Maples and Devil’s Sinkhole state natural areas, and Kickapoo Cavern State Park.

DAY USE FEE:
$8 per day, per person 13 and older.

OFFICE AND GATE INFORMATION:
Park access hours are 8am to 10pm. All registered campers and day-users that are four years old and older are issued wristbands upon entry which must be worn for the visitor’s entire stay at the park.

Peak Season (Memorial Day weekend – Labor Day weekend), park access hours are extended to 8am to 11pm during the summer when the dances are going on. Day Use permits are valid only until the dance is over at 11pm but will not be available for issue after 10pm. Gates will close at 11:30pm.

Weekends & Holiday weekends not during Peak Season (Thanksgiving, Spring Break, Easter, etc.) call Park for extended hours.

When the park reaches its maximum capacity, it will close to Day Use visitors (as early as 10am) and will reopen by 6pm. Closures are common on holidays and from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend. If you are planning to visit for the day, please arrive early and have alternate plans in case the park is closed. Customers with ‘Save the Day’ Passes and reservations are not affected and are able to enter during these closures.

The 14 day maximum stay limit is not enforced during the Non-Peak season (from Tuesday after Labor Day through Wednesday before Memorial Day). Customers wanting more than 14 days during these transition periods may make a reservation for 14 days and then contact the Customer Service Center to extend the reservation for the peak period.

Garner is divided into 2 sections: Old Garner and New Garner – both sections are along the Frio River.

Old Garner is the Pecan Grove and Oakmont areas; considered premium due to demand. Concessions and recreational activities are in this area: grocery store, mini-golf, paddleboats, dance pavilion and river dam with deepest swimming areas. Concessions are open seasonally – Memorial Day through Labor Day and some weekends.

New Garner is the Live Oak, Cypress Springs, Rio Frio, Shady Meadows, River Crossing, and Persimmon Hill areas; considered regular. It is more secluded away from the concessions/activity area.
